- Reassuringly conduct (without supervision) histories, examinations, and procedures such as injections, aspirations, staple and pain pump removal, wound evaluation, and dressing changes.
- Consistently produce informed, satisfied patients based on a decade of experience in health education, volunteer advocacy, and customer service.
CLINICAL SKILLS
Outpatient
• Triage visits with doctor based on examination and order pertinent imaging.
• Prescribe durable medical equipment, analgesics, and/or physical therapy.
• Dictate all patient encounters with accuracy and speed.
Surgery
• Contact primary care offices and order tests to ensure medical clearance.
• Manage preoperative visits and arrange postoperative rehabilitation.
• Write hospital orders, position patient in the OR, and have some training as first assist in arthroscopy, rotator cuff repairs, total joint arthroplasty, and more.
Inpatient
• Carefully promote patient satisfaction and cheer during postoperative rounds.
• Create documents including H&Ps, discharge summaries, and progress notes.
• Represent the surgeon with professionalism and implement the treatment plan with nurses, OR staff, home healthcare, and physical therapy.
WORK HISTORY
- Acquired the above skills at a busy orthopedic practice immediately after graduation—Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice in Texas, 2009-2010
- Taught biology and sex education, mentored the school health club, and debunked wildly circulating myths about sex and disease at a rural boarding school in a developing nation—Peace Corps, 2003-2004
- Created opportunities for patient interaction prior to medical training by shadowing local physician’s, attending to patient comfort in the emergency room, and volunteering as a survivor advocate at the Rape Crisis Center—Southeast Texas, 1998-2002
