- Radiation Oncology, North Dallas, Texas May 2005-present.
As a physician assistant in radiation oncology, manage patients with cancers of the lung, breast, prostate, head and neck, skin, esophageal, gastric, colorectal, anal, bladder, vaginal, cervical, endometrial, pancreatic, renal, thyroid, sarcoma, lymphoma, and others. Duties include weekly treatment checks on all patients on active radiation treatment to address progress and to manage side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Treatment modalities include traditional non-3D, 3D conformal, IMRT and stereotactic radiotherapy. Assist the radiation oncologist in brachytherapy (HDR) intracavitary procedures for gynecological, rectal, and breast cancers. Experience in sedating these patients prior to their HDR treatments. Manage patients in follow up and interpret lab data and radiological studies. Opportunity to managing a sick patient clinic for all patients managed by physicians.

As a physician assistant in medical oncology and hematology managed patients with a wide range of hematological disorders including anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. A great amount of time was spent detecting, staging, treating and evaluating response to treatment of many types of carcinoma including small cell and non-small cell lung, gastric, pancreatic, colorectal, bladder, testicular, prostate, ovarian, cervical, breast, thyroid cancers, melanoma, and neuroblastoma. Management of oncological emergencies included spinal cord compression, hypercalcemia, dehydration, malignant effusions, and infectious complications. Other responsibilities included hospital rounds and weekend call. Had daily exposure to reading x-ray, CT and MRI films. Attended a weekly tumor board meeting.
Procedures performed: bone marrow biopsies, skin biopsies, fine needle aspiration, lumbar puncture, intrathecal administration of chemotherapy and phlebotomy.
